Doha, Qatar, October 24, 2022 - The 800 MW Al Kharsaah Solar Power Plant in Qatar has been connected to the grid at full capacity and was inaugurated by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on October 18. SOKOYO, one of the leading solar street light manufacturers, is also involved in this project as a solar street light supplier.
The 800 MW Al Kharsaah Solar Power Plant is Qatar's first utility-scale solar park. When commercialized, the giant plant will generate 1.8 billion kWh of clean electricity and reduce CO2 emissions by 900,000 tons per year.
The giant plant was built by China Power Guizhou Engineering Co., Ltd. and features SOKOYO's solar street lighting solution.
Solar streetlights are installed around the entire factory in 252 sets. 8-meter long octagonal poles are equipped with 90W LED streetlights, which are capable of operating at full power for 12 hours at night. The entire solar street light system was approved by Fichtner, a European centennial engineering company, after we provided a professional solution and Pvsyst calculations.
In the almost one year since the installation was completed, all the solar street lights have proven to be stable, with IP66 protection standards, and work even in the harsh desert environment. Thus, the solar street lights take full advantage of Qatar's abundant sunlight resources and convert them into clean and stable electricity to power the LED street lights.
Its construction began during the COVID-19 pandemic and was challenged by difficult geographical conditions such as high temperatures and severe dust. However, CEC's engineers and service team provided professional and courteous support to the site. Their hard work combined with SOKOYO's high quality products ensured the successful operation of this unprecedented project in time for the opening of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
"We are very proud to witness the completion and launch of this landmark project in Qatar. SOKOYO is proud to have provided industry leading solutions for this project. Its delivery demonstrates our capabilities and strengths in products and services to support the completion of such large projects. Going forward, SOKOYO will continue to provide state-of-the-art lighting solutions for other renewable energy projects in Qatar, contributing to the realization of Qatar National Vision 2030," said Wayne Qian, General Manager of Sales for SOKOYO Gulf Region.
